Prepare for the new IRS reporting rules on nonprofit compensation with a reliable salary survey source!
Tennessee's All Nonprofit Organizations Survey can help by providing much needed market data. Abbott, Langer Association Surveys has been a trusted source for nonprofit compensation and benefits data since 1967. Our nonprofit compensation reports are available for each state and on a national basis by organization size.
Recently, the IRS Form 990 that most large charities file has been dramatically revised. You can review the changed form, instructions, and rationale for the changes at the charities section of the IRS website.
These changes include requirements for:
Review (or establishment of) a process for setting compensation that meets IRS standards:
Review and approval by the board
No person with conflict of interest involved in compensation decisions
Comparable data (salaries for like jobs in like organizations under like circumstances) collected and used to make decisions. (Abbott, Langer Association Surveys assists in this effort by providing a qualified source for this comparable data.)
Documentation of decisions when they are made
"With a little preparation now, you can have the information that will ease the filing of the new Form 990. But even more important, you can find the salary levels that allow you to attract, motivate, and retain the people you need to fulfill your organization's mission. And when compensation questions arise, whether from the IRS, state charity officials, the media, or members of the public, the appropriate documentation about your decisions will be already there." -- Linda M. Lampkin, Research Director, ERI Economic Research Institute.
The 2008 All Nonprofits Organizations Survey Report provides market-based compensation data for more than 300 different nonprofit benchmark jobs. Data contained in the survey were extracted from three different sources that include survey submissions provided by participants, for-profit compensation data taken from ERI databases, and data extracted from tax-exempt public compensation databases Two pages of data are provided for each benchmark job which include graphed data points, a benchmark job description, total compensation, mean/median data, percentiles, bonuses, EEO-1 demographics, and Selected Characteristics of Occupation (SCO). The 2008 Abbott, Langer Nonprofit Survey included approximately 300 participants. Data represent input from nonprofit organizations in all fifty (50) states and the District of Columbia. The effective date of the data is March 31, 2008.
