Why are the survey reports so expensive? Many surveys are conducted by professional societies and trade associations as a service to their members, using member dues to cover costs. Others are conducted by nonprofit or governmental organizations as a public service, using donations or tax revenue to cover payroll and survey expenses. Still others are conducted is a fairly simplistic way by employment agencies and executive search firms as a way of attracting job applicants. Abbott, Langer & Associates, Inc. is not one of those types of organization. The surveys we conduct are produced at great expense due to the cost of collecting and analyzing the extremely detailed compensation, benefits, and demographic information from our large pool of participating organizations. One of the features of our survey reports of which we are most proud is the reporting of compensation and benefits information by many factors, including (in many cases) geographic location, both size and type of employer, education, experience, and supervisory responsibility. The inclusion of these factors results in a much more accurate view of the current marketplace. The gathering and analysis of this detailed information creates invaluable
survey reports, but increases the expense we must recoup through sales of the reports.
