National/International Service Managers have a median total annual compensation of $78,950, 198% higher than the $26,456 median total annual compensation earned by Bench Service Trainees, according to a survey sponsored by the National Association of Service Managers and directed by Dr. Steven Langer, President of Abbott, Langer & Associates, Inc. The survey report contains salary and bonus information on 18 benchmark jobs in 34 firms by type of industry and size of employer, and contains sections on geographic differentials and overtime pay. Copies of the complete Salaries and Bonuses in the Service Department - 2002 are available for $425.00 through our On-Line Order Form or from Abbott, Langer & Associates, Inc., Dept. NET, 548 First St., Crete, IL 60417 (telephone 708/672-4200; fax 708/672-4674).

The median total cash incomes of some of the other benchmark jobs which were surveyed are:

Field Service Engineers $69,960
Technical Writers $63,320
Service Training Instructors $58,270
Local Service Managers $59,538
Field Service Representatives "A" $40,500
Bench Service Repairmen "A" $32,500

The income relationships reported above may be distorted slightly, since some of these benchmark jobs were reported more frequently in organizations of one size or type, while other benchmark jobs were reported more frequently by larger or smaller organizations, those providing different services, or those manufacturing different products. This possible defect is corrected in the complete survey report by reporting income for each benchmark job overall and with "break-outs" by type and size of organization.
